Frequently Asked Questions

What to wear or bring

For social distancing, please bring your own blanket or yoga mat to sit comfortably indoors or outdoors. Kids and parents should wear comfortable clothes. Weather permitting, classes are indoor/outdoor so dress with appropriate layers. We do a lot of moving and dancing. We have a NO SHOES policy for parents and children, so please come prepared to go barefoot or wear socks. In the outdoor theatre, feel free to wear appropriate shoes. We want you "grounded" for optimal brain development!

Restrooms and Changing Tables

We encourage you and your child to wash your hands as you enter the theatre.  Sanitizers are available to wipe down surfaces of lavatories and restrooms in between use. There is a family restroom across from the women's room that contains a diaper-changing table.

Entering Class

Plan to arrive about 5 minutes early for class. Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle into the musical environment as he prepares to enjoy exploring instruments and listening to music. Please do not arrive too early as the educator may be wrapping up another class and sanitizing the instruments in between classes. All classes begin on time; please try to be prompt. Occasionally, being late is difficult to avoid -- please enter the classroom as quietly as possible.  Please use the hallway hanging area for coats, shoes, and stroller storage.

Instruments

Instruments and props are provided for all in-person classes. Instruments are cleaned between classes. Kindermusik now offers individual age-appropriate family sets of instruments to purchase. This will give you the same musical exploration experience whether online or in the classroom. Purchase is not required.

What happens if CDC or local officials shutdown or restrict meetings?

We will be offering online options. If you miss a class or health restrictions require a shutdown, we will be conducting your class online. We will not offer refunds for COVID related shutdowns. Kindermusik teaches caregivers to interact and bond with their little one. Remember you are your child's best teacher. We will continue to distribute curricula and help you to further your child's development through musical activities online.

What level is best for my Child?

Kindermusik addresses the development of the whole child. The curricula and class structure offer age-appropriate activities to develop your child cognitively, socially, emotionally, physically, and linguistically. You will see an overlap in ages between the various classes. Our levels and ages are there to guide you with a strong emphasis on developmental stages. See the Class Descriptions to get an idea of offerings. The "transitional stages" such as 18-20 months, 3 to 3-1/2 are points at which we can discuss some guidance about which level might be most beneficial and appropriate.

Participation

Remember that parent/caregiver participation is a key ingredient to success in any Kindermusik program. Your commitment to regular attendance and ongoing participation with your child during class will lead to more enjoyment for your child and you.

My child loves music but doesn't participate

Not to worry! Kindermusik is about the process, not performance. Every child can be successful in a Kindermusik class no matter what his developmental level. Often we find that an observer is processing the new information and he will choose to participate when he is ready. Success should be measured more by what a child does all the week rather than his participation in a 45-minute class.

Cell Phones

Please turn off or silence your cell phone before entering the classroom. If you should need to talk on your cell phone, please take your child with you and step outside.

Drinks and Snacks

No eating or drinking is allowed in the theatre. Other children will be disrupted if they see your child eating during class. Please leave juice and snacks in the car with the exception of those babies nursing or bottle feeding.

Sickness

A good guideline to follow is to be fever-free for 24 hours and for a nose not to be running with anything other than clear. It is VERY common for babies and toddlers to have runny noses due to teething. It is VERY hard to distinguish that from being sick. If you at all feel that your baby is under the weather, remain home and schedule a makeup class. In class we have a “sanitation station” so after instruments and props have been used, they are immediately sprayed. Your teacher will guide all class members to follow our sanitation station policy. During the pandemic, we are preparing a separate individual bag of instruments to be used for that class. After class, those will be returned for sanitation before the next week. The classroom is sprayed and sanitized between classes.

Snow Cancellation Policy

In the event of inclement weather, keep a look at what school district is doing regarding closures. IF there is a school closure on a day you have a Kindermusik class, we will offer online classes that you may join with a secure link. We do not offer or process refunds that occur which affect our programming caused by storm, fire, flood, government requirement, civil or military authority, act of God, or other similar causes beyond our control as this is not the fault or negligence of Singalong and Play, LLC. If the Covid-19 restrictions require, all classes will move to an online format.

Non-enrolled siblings

Due to the limited class sizes and the delicacy of the younger class settings, we can only accommodate non-enrolled siblings when the sibling is young enough to stay contended in a sling, car carrier, or stroller.  Exceptions are considered.

Disruptive behavior

Children make all kinds of sounds during the class. We call it vocalizing. However, if your child is really upset and is distracting the class, your teacher may ask you to take him/her outside for a hug and some reassurance and come back in as soon as she is ready. Should your child become curious about our music source or instruments, please re-direct him/her if your teacher is unable to.

Children with special needs

Music helps in neurological, physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. We ask that parents talk with the teacher so that we may learn more about your child, and together we can make a decision about how to adapt in class. We welcome all ages and stages and work with families to create a learning environment where all children progress.

Visitors

If limitations are not met, we will allow a second guest. Please inquire ahead of class if you would like to bring a guest.

Drop-ins

Single, occasional visits are not allowed. Kindermusik is a continuing age-appropriate curriculum that promotes your child's development; therefore, we set up a continuing monthly membership. We allow one free Demo class before you sign up, please register on the Contact Us form so we can avoid overcrowding the classroom.
